elderly physiotherapy
The nature of physiotherapy means that assessment and treatment focus on the physical nature of a person’s condition. For older adults, the physical tasks of daily life are an essential starting point for treatments. Intervention should include assessing a person’s abilities and difficulties performing functional tasks such as transfers on/off a chair or the bed and general mobility. Having evaluated the older adult performing chair transfers, the physiotherapist then identifies the underlying impairments impacting the everyday tasks e.g. strength and balance deficits or psychological barriers such as a fear of falling. Based on the assessment outcome, the physiotherapist will make a treatment plan and then conduct appropriate physiotherapy care provided in the patient’s home.
